Jamaica

Jamaica is one of the most popular Caribbean vacation destination in the world. Throughout the year a high number of tourist travel to the Island to experience the rich culture which includes; the food, the landscape and the people and many more attractions for everyone whether you are a visitor or a local.

Jamaica is one of three islands in the Northern Caribbean which forms the Greater Antilles and is located in the British West Indies.

It is said, "that for every Island one travels, you only need to travel to Jamaica where all the other Islands there you will see."

About Jamaica in brief

Jamaica is the largest English speaking Island in the Caribbean and in the British West Indies.

While the first language of Jamaica is English, there is also a dialect widely spoken by all the Caribbean Islands; in Jamaica it is called 'Patois' broken pieces/version of French, Spanish, English and African and is spoken by many Jamaicans in a fast, deep and sometimes animated accent. And in 'Patois' there is many variations of spelling providing the sound is the same, which carry the same meaning and there are many reasons as to why that is.

Example of Patois (PAT-WAH): mi nah go seh mi nuw ebry ting.

Translation: I won't say that I know everything.

The People of Jamaica:

Jamaica has a rich and diverse culture and represents people of all culture; the majority of African descent along with Chinese, European, Lebanese and Jewish descent, have intermarried giving Jamaica it's rich heritage and the Jamaica's motto "Out of many, one people."

While Jamaicans are inherently friendly, they will tell it like it is.

While there are tons of famous Jamaicans from; Politicians, Celebrities, Artist, Musicians, Professors, Doctors, Inventors, Athletes and the list goes on, Jamaica is most known for it's reggae music through the late legendary Bob Marley.

The Weather

Jamaica is a Tropical Island, the weather there is usually between 80-86°F (27-30°C). The coolest months are December, January and February, the temperature then goes up in March with the hottest months being July and August.

The rainiest months in Jamaica are May to June and September to October and sees brief afternoon showers followed by sunshine.

Currency Used

The main currency of Jamaica, is the Jamaican Dollar (JA $). Currency widely accepted is the British Pound, US Dollar and Canadian Dollar.
